Over at New School Kaidan, I write a few words about some of the recently released promotional videos. At times, this is a bit of a grueling task, and all of my thoughts can get a little scattered when multiple PVs are released on the same day. But, I always try to present the promotional videos in the best light possible, and I try to remember that each of these pieces of entertainment for your a me is actually the manifestation of a dream for some young girl or girls out there in Japan. Here then is a collection of those write-ups, with a few words sometimes added after a week+ of viewing.
This week, we come back with a vengeance with Promotional videos from:
ANGERME- Tear-Colored Decision
It’s difficult to watch “Namida iro no Ketsui” without thinking of ANGERME’s member on hiatus, Aikawa Maho. Reading the lyrics is like a love letter to the troubled young 3rd generation member. Concentrating on the PV at hand, I feel hard-pressed to find a production as gorgeous as “Tear-Colored Decision”. With color pops courtesy of a brilliantly chosen location and great costuming, ANGERME present a softer side with ballet poses and flowing skirts. Maybe the triple center of Murota Mizuki, Sasaki Rikako, and Kamikokuryo Moe is a look at the future of the group, or maybe its a clear signal of the present of the group. Given my feelings on all three of those girls, they’re making a good decision. “Ai Sae Areba Nanni mo Iranai / Namida Iro no Ketsui / Majokko Megu-chan” goes on sale June 21, 2017. Save those tears.

Fairies – Koi no Roadshow
Fairies continue their line of sharp choreography with their new single “Koi no Roadshow”. A video shoot inside the promotional video provides the context for the staging, with lighting and camera equipment clearly visible. A clapper board even introduces the girls to new Fairies fans who get a view of the PV. A cute element comes in to compliment the fierce dance; the girls mug and giggle their way through their solo shots. But of course, Fairies know when to turn it on, and when the camera rolls, the girls synchronize like the well-experienced idol group they’ve become. And, if I’m allowed amount to fanboy, Shimomura Miki looks great in those tight fitting white pants. “Koi no Roadshow” goes on sale on July 5, 2017.

Swip – Dokidoki Girl Friend
Okinawa idols? I don’t think I’ve ever come across any Okinawa girls in my time here at New School Kaidan, but sure WHY NOT? Swip look like a fun group of girls. Keeping with the subtropical climate of the island, Swip will slap you in the face with summer shorts and tops as they congregate and walk with major sass. I know you’ve seen better production in these New PV Alerts before, but maybe owing to the oncoming season, I have a bit of a soft spot for this easy and fun listen. “Dokidoki Girl Friend” is available as a digital download now!

PALET- All for One
For their fifth anniversary, PALET have a “Best” album set for release and this live performance promotional video to commemorate the release. In white dresses with color-keyed bows adorning their skirts, the girls give a wonderful performance in a live house. I personally like the way their outfits move and flow with their choreography and twirls. Additionally, it’s nice to hear this song since the PV release for “All for One” is blocked here in the United States. PALET’s “REGENERATION ~5th Anniversary Best~ gets a June 7, 2017 release day.

STU48 – Setouchi no koe
To be honest, I’m a little bit surprised to get a full length promotional video from STU48 given their teaser a week or so back. Now, I’m fully expecting the “this is boring” response to “Setouchi no koe”. I get it: the song moves at a rate that gives the three-toed sloth a run for its money. But, the song is about progression; well, progression and gorgeous shots of Setouchi; ok, progression, gorgeous shots of Setouchi, and an introduction to the girls of STU48. In any case, I appreciate the sweeping grandeur of the lyrical melody as well as the sweeping grandeur of the gorgeous coastal views.
